- 4/5 girls think that they are overweight and ugly.
- Girls are more afraid of putting on weight compared to the death of their parents, a nuclear war or getting cancer.
- In 2007 a group of girls in grade six started an after lunch vomit club, hoping to slim down for their grade six formal.
- It has been estimated that young women see more images of beautiful women in one day than their mothers saw their entire adolescence.
REAL exists because we believe that each and every one of us is valuable, beautiful and have qualities that make us unique and special.
Each day we are bombarded with messages implying that beauty and appearance should be the most important thing in our lives. Beauty is only skin deep...it is glamour that lasts forever and glamour comes from within! |

BEHIND THE CREATION OF REAL MAGAZINE?
Erin Young - Editor
Erin, 20, is in her final year of International Studies (yay!) at RMIT University.
Erin loves hip-hop, swimming at the beach, almost any type of sport, spending time
with her friends and family, dancing and attending concerts.
Jean Young - Co-creator. Director
Jean, 16, is a student in Year 11 at Kyabram Secondary College. Jean is artistic, energetic and loves music of all kinds. Jean enjoys dancing, singing, netball,
playing in the sun and hanging out with her friends.
Felicity Kane - Marketing
Felicity, 20, is a Marketing student at RMIT University. Felicity known most
commonly as Flick is always bubbly, she loves to dress up, go out and have a good
time. Flick loves watching Sex in the City, socialising and laughing out loud.
Melissa Wallace - Public Relations/Publicity
Melissa, 25, is studying Public Relations at Deakin University. Mel loves shopping
at Dangerfield, listening to music, reading a good book and most of all dancing!
Mel has a beautiful son with her husband Shane by the name of Lachlan.
