Professional Development for Fitness Professionals

EDV offers professional development training workshops (usually 4 hours) for fitness professionals and coaches.

All workshops are tailored to meet the needs of the client group, and include powerpoint and multimedia presentations, case studies and experiential activities.

The workshops are interactive and focus on providing practical skills and knowledge that can be applied directly and immediately by participants at the completion of training.

EDV also provides an ongoing educational support service that provides backup consultation for workplaces implementing change.

The complete training package provides information about:

  • Understanding eating disorders and their causes;
  • Warning signs and early detection;
  • Understanding body image;
  • Disordered eating and fad dieting;
  • Approaching and supporting people at risk;
  • Referral and treatment options;
  • Developing and applying appropriate policies and procedures in the workplace.

Shorter workshops can be developed that cover one or more of these areas.

At the completion of training, participants will typically:

  • Have a greater understanding of the relevance of body image, dieting, perfectionism and self esteem to the  development of eating disorders;
  • Better detect individuals who may be at risk of developing, or who are experiencing, an eating disorder;
  • More confidently and competently intervene and provide support to individuals who are showing the warning signs of an eating disorder;
  • Be able to devise and implement new stategies and develop skills to aid in reducing the incidence of eating disorders in their organisation.
