Why Volunteer?

The reasons people volunteer can be quite varied. Many people gain a great deal of satisfaction from volunteering and knowing they are making a difference in the community. Some people choose to volunteer in organisations that they feel an affinity for, or perhaps they or a loved one have used the organisations' services in the past and they would like to 'give back' something to that organisation. Volunteering can also help some people gain practical skills and work experience in a area they are interested in turning into a career.

Many people choose to volunteer with EDV because they are studying courses in the areas of psychology, counselling, nutritian and dietetics, PR and communications and health promotion and EDV offers them practical skills and training in a busy and hands-on environment. Other EDV volunteers have had their own personal experience with an eating disorder or negative body image in the past and are keen to give back to an organisation in this field and share their experiences with other people.

Interested in Helping Out?

Volunteers are an invaluable support and EDV is always looking for volunteers who would like to assist the  organisation in carrying out its important work in the community.

There are lots of opportunities available for a diverse group of people from a variety of backgrounds and locations around Victoria. Please note all volunteers are required to make a 12 month commitment when volunteering with EDV.

If you are interested in undertaking a voluntary position(s) with EDV then please fill out a volunteer application form and return it to the Volunteer Services Coordinator. It may take up to 4 weeks before you received notification that your application has been received. For further information please contact the Volunteer Services Coordinator.

Please note that wellness criterias apply for all volunteers who have had a personal experience with an eating disorder &/or other mental illness (including carers).

Volunteer Training & Recruitment

EDV generally recruits volunteers twice a year an/or on an ads need basis.  All volunteers go through a comprehensive training program followed by an observation period and supervised period. A 3 month probationary period also applies. Ongoing training and support is provided.
